A private and secluded location on the edge of Lamington National Park, just 45 minutes from the Gold Coast. No neighbours, just National Park and wildlife!
A Unique Destination
A unique feature of the Ridge Cottage is its private location on the edge of Lamington National Park, just 45 minutes from the Gold Coast. You can enjoy wildlife and natural eucalypt forest right outside the cottage door. Please note that due to recent fires the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park is closed until at least early January 2020. You can still access Lamington via O’Reillys and there are plenty of other options to explore in the area. Back down the road is the rural settlement of Beechmont, once a large dairy farming community, Beechmont is now a scenic landscape of rural acreage and varied farmland. While there are no shops on Beechmont there is a cafe at the Old School sight, as well as the Flying Bean Cafe at Rosins Lookout. This is also a popular hangliding launch sight and a spectacular spot for views into Numinbah Valley and over the border into NSW towards the ancient extinct shield volcano of Wollumbin.
The Ridge Cottage is located at the southern end of the property and is accessed by your own private driveway. Your host lives in the main house at the entrance to the property, but once you have driven up the driveway to the top of the ridge, you are secluded from the rest of the property. There are no neighbours, just National park and wildlife.
A car is essential for visiting the area. It is also important to remember to bring all your food with you and to have a full tank of petrol, if you’re planning on driving around to sightsee. The nearest town is Canungra, which is 25km away and it’s a scenic country town with basic shops, a service station and cafes. Nerang is the closest large urban area, which has a good range of shops including supermarkets. Most guests will drive through Nerang on their way to the Ridge Cottage and this is the best place to stock up on anything you need. Coolangatta is the nearest airport, a 70 minute drive away. Nerang is the nearest train station, a 40 minute drive away.
All of the artwork in the Cottage is by your host and local landscape artist, Dave Groom. Just behind the car park for the Ridge Cottage is Dave Groom’s Studio Gallery, which is open to the public. The public access the gallery from a separate entrance so will not disturb your stay. The Gallery is generally open between 10am – 4pm. There will be a sign on the wall at the end of the Gallery telling you whether it is open. Please feel free to visit during opening hours, or contact Dave on 0434036975 to arrange a time to visit.
